Letter: Fontana Dam Economy is threatened

Fontana Dam Economy is threatened

After teaching economics for 29 years, I never expected our economy would be exposed to political risk in the US.

We have the most envied economy in the world.  Not only because of our entrepreneurial spirit, but also because of the investment drawn to our economy due to the zero political risk in our country.  A peaceful transition of government between elections, trust in our election system, and trust in civic society are essential ingredients reducing risk and increasing investment in our economy. For 200 years these elements provided the foundation creating our successful economy.

Voters need to know if those running for office, especially for Congress, are willing to protect our democracy by taking actions to guarantee free, fair, and secure elections.  The legislation includes the bipartisan Electoral Count Reform Act co-sponsored by North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis, the Freedom to Vote Act, and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.  Together they provide a solid foundation of reform to protect our democracy, our economy, and our way of life.

Do the candidates running for office in our district support these efforts?  We need to know.  Our democracy, our economy, and our way of life depend on it.
